CHARACTER
NAME: Hanta Sero
CANON: My Hero Academia
CANON POINT: Chapter 218
AGE: 16
BACKGROUND: Here

PERSONALITY:
Sero is one of those people who can easily talk to anyone. He's quick to make friends and to keep them, getting involved even with people who might be a little more standoffish to others (a quality that the rest of the Bakusquad share, because... they kind of have to). Rather than being the type who powers through the tsun to find the dere underneath, he basically just accepts people as they are and meets them on that level. His friendship with Todoroki is definitely a lot more low-key than his buddy-buddy camaraderie with Kirishima, for example. Definitely an easy guy to be around in general.

At the same time though, he's still basically your typical guy friend. You fall on your face and he'll be the first one to pick you up off the floor, make sure you're okay - but also right there poking fun at you for it once you're back on your feet. And that means that sometimes he goes a little far, not thinking before he speaks and upsetting people in the process. Still, it's never malicious or even uncaring. He's just not the brightest bulb in the box sometimes.

You don't get to be in the hero course at UA without really wanting it, and he's just as hungry as any of the rest of them. He knows his quirk is more versatile and useful than it might sound at first, and he's confident in his abilities. Realistically he knew he probably wasn't going to beat Todoroki at the sports festival, but that didn't stop him from giving it his best shot - and almost actually doing it just by virtue of surprising him by going all out without giving him a chance to warm up or react. Defeat didn't really knock him, though. He's a positive kind of guy who doesn't think that not having a chance means you shouldn't try, but also recognizes that you don't have to come out number one every time to be successful. Bakugou can scream about coming in second if he wants to - Sero would've liked to win too, but he's happy just to get through to the next round.

The incident at USJ was a particular example of marching in with confidence despite overwhelming odds. When faced with real villains almost before they'd even really had any hero training, Sero quickly teamed up with others in the class to come up with a plan and then helped to face arguably the most formidable of the villains head on. Despite being aware of the power his quirk can have in the right conditions, he's not the kind of guy who tries to save the day all by himself, and always has his teammates and their strengths and weaknesses in mind. Ways they can make use of his quirk, and ways he can make use of theirs, coming up with some pretty ingenious configurations using quirks like Uraraka's. He might have failed the practical exam against Midnight because she put him to sleep with her quirk early, but had it not been for his quick thinking to take his teammate Mineta out of the line of fire, the whole thing would have been over much sooner. Sero can actually get kind of annoyed with people like Bakugou for whom teamwork is something of an afterthought or a passing consideration.

He's not much of a natural born leader and generally prefers to either follow a strong lead figure or else operate in a team as equals. This, the lack of much in the way of actual attack power with his quirk, and (as multiple people mention - thanks guys) his plain facial features and general appearance, mean that you could almost be forgiven for thinking of Sero as forgettable. His hero name (The Taping Hero, Cellophane) is almost exactly just a description of who he is and what he does without much in the way of embellishment. There aren't any flashy sparks or bells and whistles to what he does. But he likes it that way, insisting that the less you try to add extra things you don't need and the more you focus on the basic fundamentals, the easier it'll be to achieve your goals.

That said, he definitely doesn't want to be forgotten. He's just as boisterous and loud as the rest of his friend group given the occasion, and sometimes he does want to show off and be the guy who gets the attention too. He actually cares a surprising amount about style - his dorm room has a pretty cohesive style and actually looks like some thought went into decorating it, which he's pretty pleased about. Just call him the gap moe guy, Sero Hanta.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
- Quirk: Tape. Sero's elbows shoot tape. The amount, speed of production, and whether or not it's double-sided depends on him and has limits based on current physical condition. It's strong enough to restrain a person, to pull himself around Spiderman-style with, makes good traps, and is also useful for arts and crafts.

INVENTORY:
1. His hero costume including helmet
2. Provisional hero license

MOONBLESSING: Iris
